There are some films know I should watch, but don't have the courage. This is mainly because, despite all the tough talk, I am actually a wimp. So anything above a 12 certificate is usually not the film for me. Ignorance is bliss in my book. So here is my list of films that I have never seen, but should.
Schindlers List
Gandhi
The Deerhunter
Midnight Express
The Blair Witch Project
Gladiator
The Passion of the Christ
Blood Diamond
Gangs of New York

Well, Gandhi was the last film I saw in a cinema and that's when it first came out. I can't take violent films at all and I don't particularly remember this as a violent film ..... or have the years blurred my memory ? I know he was assassinated but as far as I recall, it only took one bullet.
Quite tame by today's standards.
I'm wimpy about films too. The only ones I've seen on that list are Schindler's List and The Deerhunter.
I didn't find Schindler's List disturbing, but maybe I've read so many WWII novels that it's desensitized me.
The Deerhunter is disturbing in bits but I don't remember its being traumatic.
I would not in any way feel I "should" watch The Passion of the Christ. I've had too many people tell me that most of the violence (flogging, etc.) in it seemed gratuitous.
I have no idea why I thought Gandhi would be violent.
Is there a beheading or amputation in the film? That's my worst fear.
Why don't you go to the pictures Mrs Trout?
...I will then post a list of films that "I'm ashamed to say I love"
The Blair witch prtoject just gave me motion sickness and then I dfell asleep.I haven;t seen shcindlers list which is suprising since I am usually drawn to men in leather b oots and n azi uniforms I should watch. The deer hunters not overly violent either its more psychological. The Omen has a good beheading
i have seen quite a few on your list. however i have not been able to watch Saving Private Ryan. i tried a few times but cannot get past the opening scenes of the slaughter of the soldiers on the beach. Midnight Express was quite disturbing. I don't know if it would bother me as much now. 1978 was a long time ago and i am probably much more calloused now. Looking for Mr Goodbar creeped my out. Schindlers List was hard to watch but I have seen quite a few WWII movies and am drawn to holocaust documentaries so I was okay seeing it. Blair Witch Project was pretty creepy.
Had to Google Looking for Mr Godbar. I wouldn't have even attempted the Omen or Saving Private Ryan.
I am, however, watching Bugsy Malone :oD

Wow, you're braver than I am. You'd all fall over yourselves laughing if I did that. (This does not require a comment from you, Alex.)
and I meant to say "fall all over yourselves laughing".
sixty six isd out on dvd this week you should rent it you'll like it a lot
I will rent that, and I would like to go and see the Illusionist too. And that Jane austen thing.
The Passion of the Christ is the most violent and upsetting film I've ever seen
I don't really know why I stopped going to cinemas. Maybe because videos and dvds were invented. Also, I don't like sitting in the dark cos you never know what's crawling around on the floor.
I rarely go to the pictures because I can never find anyone who wants to see the same films as me(Miss Potter, good example). Alex goes on her own, but she's brave. I'm a wuss.
you don't need to be brave to go to the cinema alone , you'd be suprised how many people do it , particulaly in the early shows
>"Also, I don't like sitting in the dark cos you never know what's crawling around on the floor."
That got a snort from me.
Clanky,
I'm with you--I haven't seen any of those films either
The biblical description of the Passion is pretty darn harsh, too.
Welcome, Clank!

I quite fancy Miss Potter too. Oooh.... I'd better re-phrase that. I'd like to see the film, 'Miss Potter'. The reveiws said that a lot of it is wrong but I'd like to see it anyway. I'll wait for the DVD.
I hear that cinemas are really expensive now. I can actually remember when it cost 1/6 to get in and an old ninepence for children! God, how depressing.
Truoty, I used to go to Saturday morning pictures with tenpence. Three pence to get in then seven pence for Rainbow Drops, fruit salads and Bazooka Bubblegum.
...gladiator is an amazing film, i think you'd actually quite like it if u came to eventually watch it!! :D when i come back perhaps we should watch it... and invite sally along too!! :D dunno if lizzie would like it tho :( x x x
Can't I just watch Chitty Chitty Bsng Bang again?!
