Cider with Rosie

Whilst waiting to get my eyebrows waxed this morning I popped into a charity shop. There right in front of me, on the shelf was the very identical copy of Cider with Rosie that I had read 20 years ago. (My own copy, my mother donated to Oxfam, along with my David Cassidy & the Partridge Family Christmas LP...but I refuse to be bitter.) So, anyway, I bought it, and have started re-reading it.
There are two books that make we want to jump into the pages as they are so warm, snuggly, lushous and homely, Cider with Rosie is one and The Darling Buds of May is another.

I do believe I was born about 75 years too late.
(Found a identical copy on Ebay, and stole the picture.)

Who knows it actually could be your copy your mother donated all those years ago. My Father sold all my Famous Five and Secret Seven books in our shop... and I am still bitter!!

Dear Anonymous...

No. This copy is a Penguin from 1985. It has a drawing of legs and a crock of cider of the front.

I was much more of a Secret Seven girl than a Famous Five girl Kaz!

...also, I never look after a book as well as this one looks, and I used to always put my name in books.

I was also a Mallory Towers and St. Clares girl as well as all the Adventure books, I always wanted a pet parrot like Kiki. I cant imagine who anonymous could be or why anyone would possibly want to irritate stroppy!

I read "Cider with Rosie" about a year ago after hearing it recommended by WM. I agree, the writing style is very cosy, and it's like stepping into another world.

when my older sister announced she was pregnant 6 years ago i made a list of all the great books my mom read to us when we were young. I spent the entire 9 months collecting them and making a lovely basket. my older sister took one look at her shower gift and said "i asked everyone for money." i now skip presentes for my sister and get her kids presents instead.

my alltime favorite book, when i was 4, was "Hats for Sale." in pre-kindergarten we did it as a play and I was a monkey in a tree. besides the time a cow shat on my sister, that's my favorite preschool memory.
