I have got an appointment to see my doctor next week, due to the fact that I want some cosmetic surgery done. I have been thinking about a tummy tuck for years, I have always had a big tummy even when I was a size 10. After I had Lizzy (emergency caesarian) mine got even worse. I have been to loads of cosmetic surgery websites showing before and after tummy tucks, and I promise you, I'm not exaggerating, I can't find one as bad as mine. I know the chances of me getting one done on the nhs are very slim, but I have a blood condition so I also need to see my GP and ask whether he thinks it sensible. Also, though, due to my blood condition, it is quite dangerous for me to carry weight around my middle. thing is, I can't face anyone else thinking I am pregnant. And the more weight I have lost, the worse it looks.
Another point to note is that I will be taking out a loan to pay for some of it. And lastly, how selfish is cosmetic surgery when there are sick people, and dying children all over the world?
Am very interested to hear what others think of cosmetic surgery, and whether you or anyone else you know had anything done?

my aunt had gastric bypass and then it was messed up and had to have a second one. she's got plans to get all the extra skin taken off, about 12 lbs worth, in the next few years.
i'd say, if it makes you happy, and you can afford to pay off the loan, do it, just don't become joan rivers (shudder). i have always wanted to get my boobs made smaller. however, the chances of bluecross/blueshield paying for that are slim to none.

Actually Jills, many insurance will pay for a breast reduction because of the future back pain involved. I know two or three people who've had their insurance pay for it.
Clank, if your blood condition allows and you're not pawning your home, I say do it, if it makes you feel better. Afterall, it's not like you're taking anything away from those sick and dying people..
rosa, mine said i have to grow them a tad bit bigger to qualify as they're just a 42D, and i'm "tall." Apaprently, that's not too big after all. I did get them to shrink a bit through some awful exercises, but i'll never get them to a significant smaller size on my own.

I have a really good friend who wanted breast reduction, but honestly, it is a horrid operation. Removal of nipples etc. Retch.
I;d say don;t do it take the loan and give it to the starving millions you selfish slag :-D
i was referred to a consultant about 6 years ago for a breast reduction. my doctor offered to get it done on the nhs for me but i felt so guilty about using public funds for a cosmetic operation that i refused and said i would pay myself. however around that time my mother's breast cancer came back and i felt even more guilty about that so i didn't go ahead.
i'm now thinking about it again but the price has doubled so i would definitely consider trying for it on the nhs as i do have back problems.
i haven't made my mind up as i still have the guilt and the fear of it going wrong.
I agree sue. But I would love to be able to wear a dress. Apart from a exceedlingly corsetted wedding dress, I haven't worn a dress since I was 16. I have, however, worn a corset every day, apart from when I was pregnant.
clank, are you sure you don't have fibroids? i work with a woman (who also has a blood condition) that was recently told she's got several fibroids that are each the size of a graprfruit. she looks several months pregnant. i feel awful for her as she's spent the past several months dieting and going to the gym thinking that she's just getting fat. in a few weeks she's having all her "lady parts" taken out except for her ovaries.

I don't know. Do fibroids hurt? I'm not in pain. ~If I am feeling brave enough, I might post a photo.

rita only knew she had fibroids because she finally went to the obgyn/doctor about the weight gain.

I have a close friend who took out a home equity loan to pay for her breast augmentation. She said she'd do it again in a heartbeat. And, I guess good cosmetic surgery, if it looks good and makes you feel good, really is a home improvement.
I'm not worried about looking good, I'd just like to look normal!

Do whatever it takes and whatever you can afford to make yourself feel good. Think what you'd cost the NHS if you got clinicly depressed or worse, everyone gets adequate (approriate) treatment on the NHS if they are really ill, you'd be paying for your own.........so what are you waiting for.?
