For the first time ever I have just finished watching Gone with the Wind. I picked up the video at a boot sale for 30p. I've no idea why I haven't seen it before. How fabulous. What a wonderous film. I cried all the way through, and now am going to make it my mission to watch more classic films. Non violent, of course. Suggestions please!

Well, Casablanca of course. I'm not much of a classic films person to be honest, though.
i was going to suggest arsenic and old lace, but i think that one is violent, in a fake way. it makes me laughe very time. beinging up baby is a good one too.

I haven't seen a single movie mentioned here. Maybe I should start.
a few more i liked growing up are: splender in the grass, street car named desire, cat on a hot tin roof, (this one is violent but good) whatever happened to baby jane? (the original), to kill a mockingbird, grapes of wrath, this property is condemned.

Why have I watched hardly any of these films? I have, however read some of them. Rebecca and To Kill a Mockingbird.
Oh and the quiet man. my mom and her sisters watch this together every christmas for some reason. i think of this movie as a christmas movie more than it's a wonderful life or any of those real christmas films.

Oh yes definitely "To Kill A Mockingbird" and "African Queen." I may be the only person in the world who doesn't like "It's a Wonderful Life."
I saw "The Shop Around The Corner" (1940) at Christmas time last year. "You've Got Mail" was adapted from it. It has James Stewart and Margaret Sullavan and is set in Budapest. It was good but not terrific.
Take a look at All Time 100 Best Films for hints, maybe.
Oh, and I like the original "The Pink Panther" movie (1963.) It's very funny.

forest gump was okay for the first 20 minutes, and then it just never ended. i have only watched it through once and will never do that again. i have never seen titanic either, and don't plan on it. i know, i'm a snob.
