I seem to be turning into a couch potato. (Or potatoe, as Dan Quayle would say). We have had Virgin media fitted and it comes with TV choice on demand. Meaning you can watch complete old series. I have watched Gillian McKeith bullying people into eating mung beans and now I am totally hooked on the Life on Mars series with John Simm and the very shaggable Phillip Glennister.
It makes me feel quite strange when I watch it, being set in 1973. I was 7 then (Younger than Mrs Weasley, obviously) and I loved the things they have in the series. Those looping cassette players that went in the cars. Party Seven. Men with beards on Open University. People smoking in hospital wards, hair that had obviously been set with hair gel and rollers the night before.... and the Trades Test Transmission girl. Those long floor ashtrays on stalks. Grants whisky. Little bottles of Babycham. Whizzer and Chips comics. Smitty perfume. And I especially adored the way Annie said that she likes to stay in on a Saturday night to make tapes.I realise things weren't perfect in 1973. But they were a lot more perfect than they are now.
